The United Kingdom, on October 7, announced that Indian travelers fully vaccinated with Serum Institute of India’s Covishield or any other UK-approved COVID-19 vaccine, will not have to quarantine themselves upon arrival in Britain. The decision came into effect on October 11, Monday.
Alex Ellis, the British High Commissioner to India, tweeted, “No quarantine for India travelers to the United Kingdom fully vaccinated with Covidshield or another UK-approved vaccine from October 11. Thanks to the Indian government for close cooperation over last month.”

A British spokesperson, in a statement, said, “The decision was taken after close technical cooperation between our ministries taking public health factors into account.”
Talking about recognizing the fully vaccinated status of travelers from 37 new countries including India, Turkey, and others, Grant Shapps, Britain’s Secretary of State for Transport, tweeted, “I’m also making changes so travelers visiting England have fewer entry requirements… treating them the same as the UK fully vax passengers.”

What happens if you are not fully vaccinated?
If you are not fully vaccinated with one of the four vaccines as approved by the UK, you will need to mandatorily self-isolate for 10 days upon arrival in the country.
The traveler will also have to take COVID-19 tests on the following days: A pre-departure test.
1.A pre-departure test.
2.A test on or before day 2 in the UK.
3.A test on or after day 8 in the country.

The recognition of Covishield as a COVID-19 vaccine by the UK came into effect on October 4. However, no changes in the quarantine protocols for Indian travelers from India were announced that day.
The UK has so far recognized the following COVID-19 vaccines and any formulation of these, including Covishield:Moderna vaccine.
1.Moderna vaccine
2.Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine.
3.Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine.
4.Janssen vaccine.
