Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) measures the English language proficiency of international students who wish to graduate from a university/college in an English-speaking country. Latest Updates for TOEFL Exam

1. The TOEFL registration fee for the test centre and home edition is INR ₹16,900.
2. According to new updates, the TOEFL iBT Paper Edition test will no longer be offered after January 20, 2024.
3. The duration of the TOEFL Exam is reduced to less than 2 hours (116 minutes) from 3 hours.
4. However, you can continue to take the computer-based TOEFL iBT test at your local test centre or from home.

TOEFL Exam Registration Fee in India 2025

The TOEFL test is available in two Editions: 

• TOEFL iBT Home 
• TOEFL iBT Test Centre

TOEFL Late Registration Fee 

If you want to take your TOEFL test, you must register for it 7 days prior to the date you want to sit for the test, or else the online registration closes. However, if you miss that deadline you can register for the test, for which you need to pay ₹3,900 as a late registration fee.

TOEFL at Home

The TOEFL home edition is similar to the one you would take at a test center; you will be able to take the test from the comfort of your home and will be monitored by a human proctor. You can take the test at any time of the day, and 4 days in a week. However, before you take the test, make sure you meet the following equipment and environment requirements:

• Download the ETS Secure Browser, once the installation is complete, choose the Equipment Check option to confirm that your equipment is ready for test day.
• Make sure you have a well-functioning desktop or laptop, and use an internal or external speaker and microphone during the test to listen to your proctor.
• Check if your device’s camera is working or get a webcam, you need to move your camera to provide a 360-degree view of your surroundings.
• Take the test from a private space, you need to close all the doors of the room from where you will be taking the test.
• Keep your computer and keyboard on a tabletop surface, and there should be no items in the tabletop or surrounding area whose use is not approved.

TOEFL Essential Test 

Unlike the TOEFL iBT, the TOEFL Essentials test assesses your language skills in an academic setting and everyday life. The test measures the four core language skills - speaking, listening, reading, and writing. Nowadays, many institutions are accepting the test’s score to assess if they can succeed in a program as it accurately measures the applicant’s English skills. The test can be taken from home in only about 1.5 hours at $120, which is almost half the price of other major English-language tests.

At this point, it must be noted that apart from the TOEFL exam fee, a candidate will need to pay extra to avail services like late registration, rescheduling the exam, or score review. The test fee may vary so the applicants must confirm the test fee with the official ETS website before making the payment to book the test slot.

TOEFL cancellation fee

TOEFL cancelation is done through the same mode as was used while registering for the test. It can be canceled any time before the examination. For a TOEFL refund, you need to follow the guidelines regarding cancellation policies as stated by ETS.

To get a 50% refund, the applicants need to cancel the test at least four days prior to the test date. The other 50% is non-refundable as it is charged by the test center to carry out the registration process and holding of the slot for a candidate.

If the cancellation has been done due to some medical emergency, original copies of documents will be required. There are exceptional cases, under which a complete refund may be processed. The refund takes three-four weeks to get credited to the applicant’s account.

TOEFL rescheduling fee

ETS allows candidates to reschedule the TOEFL exam against a fee of US$60.

The rescheduling request will only be processed if it has been made four days before the booked slot. You can only reschedule by the method that you had used for registration.

If you travel to the test center and find out that the test has been canceled by ETS, you can reschedule your test at zero charge or receive a full refund of your test fee.

Several payment methods are accepted by ETS depending upon how the candidate has registered for the exam. Below mentioned are all the ways in which a payment can be a made:

●  American Express, China Union Pay, Discover, JCB, VISA, Diners Club and Mastercard are accepted for registration.

●  ETS also accepts PayPal to process the test registration fee.

Payment and Refund Policies for TOEFL

• You'll get a 50% refund if you cancel your registration before the 4-day deadline.
• If you arrive at the test center and discover that ETS has canceled the test to be administered and you do not want to reschedule, you can get a full refund of your test cost.
• Suppose ETS cancels a test, and you pay for travel to the test center. In that case, you may be eligible for reimbursement of reasonable and documented travel charges within 30 days of the original test date. 
• If you don't complete the registration requirements or don't bring the required ID to the test facility, you won't get a refund.
• If paid by credit/debit card or bank account, the refund gets credited back to the original credit/debit card or bank account.
• You need to contact the organization in case you made the payment using  a voucher but did not get the enrolment. If you've already scheduled a test, standard refund policies apply.
• You need to wait for a period of eight weeks for processing if you paid with a personal check.
• Refunds are issued in the same currency in which the payments were made, and include applicable taxes.
• There are no cash refunds available.
• Only registration fees are refundable. Other services are not refundable.

TOEFL Exam Fee Reduction Service

• The TOEFL Fee Reduction Service is for financially disadvantaged high school seniors in the United States who are applying to colleges and universities that require TOEFL scores. The fee reduction voucher entitles you to a 50% discount on the standard test charge. 

TOEFL Score Sending Fee

The test fee you pay to take the TOEFL exam includes up to four score reports that could be sent to the institutions or recipients that you have to select before you take the test. However, if you need to send your score reports to additional institutions, you can request them during the 2-year time frame when your score is valid. You can use your ETS account to request additional score reports, for which you have to pay US$25 per institution/agency.
