Describe A Time When You Felt Bored: Sample 1
Boredom is never a choice; it is inflicted upon us through circumstances, people, or other happenings in most cases. I was once unfortunate enough to spend an extremely boring night a few years earlier. I am referring to a train journey from my home in Kolkata to New Delhi. It was a visit to my maternal aunt. As luck would have it, another relative of ours, a distant cousin of my father, was accompanying me. He had a business meeting in New Delhi and my parents booked the same coach for us. It was a two-person coach and immensely comfortable.
However, that did not make up for the sheer sense of boredom that gnawed at me throughout the journey. The uncle accompanying me was a good student in his youth and also led an extremely disciplined life. He also loved sharing his pearls of wisdom with youngsters, as I found out to my chagrin. As soon as the journey started, he began a never-ending monologue on the virtues of a disciplined life, i.e. studying and exercising in the morning and going to bed early. Once it was over, I was about to put on my headphones and curl up with a book before dinner. However, he called for dinner a tad earlier than necessary, in my opinion. I did not make any fuss and ate up. After eating, I had just put on my night-time light and opened my ongoing novel when he asked me to switch it off and go to sleep at once.
Not wishing to offend a senior relative, I just lay there bored and miserable until sleep beckoned at the crack of dawn. Looking back, it is one of those times when I was bored out of my wits.

Describe A Time When You Felt Bored: Sample 2
To be bored is to be miserable, for you know not what to say or do- This is not a quote by any famous personality. I coined it a few days back when I was stuck in the throes of pure boredom. It was my cousin’s wedding, and I was part of the group that had to deliver some gifts (as per rituals) to the bride’s house in the morning. We were to give them and come back for lunch, before preparing for the evening’s nuptials. As luck would have it, I was the only youngster in my group, and my cousin’s maternal uncle was the only one accompanying me. As soon as we arrived and delivered the gifts, we were given a warm welcome.
Just as we were about to leave, in came the bride’s father and uncle. They requested us to stay for lunch. We pleaded with them, saying that we had to reach back in time for the ceremonies at home. However, our pleas fell on deaf ears. They said that they would not let us leave without lunch. It was to be served soon. We had no other choice but to wait. The relative with me was a taciturn and serious man who just sat there without speaking. He then got hold of a daily newspaper somewhere and started flipping the pages. I tried to make conversation but discovered he was not much of a talker.
All the while, the bride’s family periodically kept coming and telling us that lunch was almost prepared. A couple of hours passed before lunch was finally served. We hastily dug into the meal and left for home. That was the day I felt boredom pervading my mind from all corners. The sight of the home was a relief!
