Describe A Person Who Wears Unusual Clothes: IELTS Cue Card

The International English Language Testing System or IELTS is an English language proficiency test taken for study, migration, or work. One of the most interesting IELTS cue card topics is- Describe a person who wears unusual clothes. You have to get into the gist of the topic and plan your essay structure accordingly. You can make it humorous with entertaining anecdotes or simply report on something that you witnessed and found odd. If possible, draw from your personal experiences as much as possible. This topic asks for a description of an individual who wears unusual clothes. I came across such an individual at a meeting that I attended as a representative of my company. The gentleman I am referring to had questionable sartorial choices, in my opinion. Here are some more details of what I saw. 

My company had sent me to the office of a sister concern to get some important documents signed by the Head of Procurement who was posted there. This gentleman had scheduled a meeting with me and some other members of his team at 10 AM. I arrived as per the schedule and was ushered into his spacious office. We all assumed positions on the sofas with a round table in front of us. The gentleman arrived punctually at 10 AM. 

However, I was taken aback by his choice of apparel; he was wearing a full-length blazer with a formal shirt. The icing on the cake was his pajamas which he confidently wore beneath his formal attire. To top it off, he was also wearing formal shoes. One can imagine the sense of amazement at witnessing someone wearing impeccable formal clothing and striped pajamas with cartoons embedded in them. Needless to say, it was an unusual choice of attire for someone who was the Head of Procurement for an MNC and one of the key managerial personnel at that office. The gentleman’s demeanor was thoroughly professional, and his questions proved that he was a hard taskmaster who believed in results. Yet, his clothing failed to match his outward personality. To date, this is perhaps the only instance where I spotted such unusual clothing worn by someone at any event. This thought never fails to amuse me even today.

People often wear unusual clothing without realizing it. Sometimes, they wear it to provoke, shock, and elicit amazement from the gathering. Sometimes they also wear unusual clothing to make a rebellious style statement. Or at least they think they are creating a radical stir with their choice of clothing. Maybe, the latter was what inspired my cousin sister to demonstrate her novel fashion choices to us one day. 

It was my cousin brother’s wedding, and we were all dressing up before the evening nuptials. We were all stunned to see her outfit. She had worn a short skirt, and above that, she had thrown on a formal shirt and a hefty brown waistcoat while teaming up the entire look with a few metal chains and dangling earrings along with gum boots. We were shocked. As we known, she was in a rebellious fashion phase, but this was completely unexpected, especially for her mother and my aunt (the mother of the groom). Before my aunt could retort, my mother saved the day by telling us to hurry up and board the bus since it was getting late. Crisis averted, we all set out, my funny-looking sibling in tow. Yet we could not stop looking at her throughout the evening. It was hilarious to see her effect on the bride’s family and other guests at the nuptials.
