What is IMA? The full form of IMA is Indian Military Academy. As one of the top institutions preparing Gentlemen Cadets (GCs) for Indian Army commissioning, the Indian Military Academy (IMA) is located in Dehradun. The Academy is renowned for its heroic traditions and illustrious past, which not only contribute to the great heritage of the country but also serve as a vital pillar of national security for independent India. The future officers of the Indian Army are passed out through the IMA gates under the credo "Veerta Aur Vivek." Military leaders have a rigorous, thrilling, and difficult service ahead of them. It is a severe school that offers demanding instruction in the art of battle, leadership, and self control. The majority of the Indian Army's current officer cadre can be traced back to this esteemed institution.

Indian Military Academy Key Aspects

• The first-year GCs come from a variety of backgrounds and have a wide range of grooming and habits. 
• The Academy is essential in shaping their distinctions and assisting them in uniting into a shared identity. Engaging in activities with others fosters a sense of community.
• No GC receives special care; instead, they are all given the opportunity to mature together. They play together, break bread together, and get the same level of instruction.
• Their camaraderie, esprit de corps, and oneness—values that greatly contribute to the Army's officer corps' unique identity—are fostered by this bonding. 
• A Gentlemen Cadet is encouraged by IMA to consider the beauty of India's diversity, her secular basis, and to respect Army traditions and customs.
• Cadets spend a year training at the IMA. Trainees chosen through the UPSC's Combined Defence Services Exam are an exception. After graduating from a non-military college, these cadets serve 1.5 years of training.
