History of the University of Sydney

The University of Sydney, Australia, was established in 1850 as an open research university. The school had received a royal charter from Queen Victoria in 1858. Once the University of Sydney received this royal charter, the degrees conferred by the university were recognized equivalent to the degrees given by universities in Britain.

New England University was in association with the University of Sydney till 1938. After that, it was established as a separate university by the University of New England.
