Describe a Good Law in your Country: Question 2
Describe a Good Law in your Country that Impacts the Environment Positively
Laws and regulations are an essential component of a civilized society. India, the world's largest democracy, has a vast constitution dictating laws responsible for enriching the lives of any regular citizen. When it comes to environmental protection, there are multiple laws and guidelines to keep a strict check on the deterioration of nature's gifts.
Some of the customary laws that fall under this category are the ban on deforestation, strict action against animal cruelty, air-pollution control, etc. However, I am going to discuss another crucial law that impacts the day-to-day life of all citizens. In 2016, India's parliament passed a law that completely banned the usage of plastic carry bags below 50-micron thickness.
It was not properly implemented due to the widespread usage of polythene bags across the country. Shopkeepers were not too keen on shifting to other options due to less accessibility and cost constraints. Needless to say, people all over the country could still be seen carrying such bags.
However, the situation completely changed a couple of years later when India became the global host of World Environment Day in June 2018. Our nation's theme "Beat Plastic Pollution" resulted in the strict implementation of the above-mentioned law. To achieve the same, our honorable PM, Shri Narendra Modi, asked the respective leaders of all states and union territories to prioritize this issue.
Massive campaigns were launched to spread awareness of the damage plastic usage cause to the environment. Additionally, strict fines were imposed on all forms of plastic like water bottles, carry bags, drinking straws, etc. This law has indeed brought a considerable change in our society for good.

Describe a Good Law in your Country: Question 2
Name one good law in your country and state your reasons for the same.
Laws help in the good governance of the society and maintain strict decorum in our day-to-day lives. The government of India has passed multiple praiseworthy laws since the nation's independence to empower its citizens. One such law I would like to discuss is the Dowry Prohibition Act passed in 1962.
It was a common practice for the bride's family to give in to the worldly demands set by the groom's family at the wedding time. The original thought behind the act was to help the daughter settle in a new home easily post-marriage. However, it soon turned into a trade deal, and people started using dowry as a reason to spread classism in society.
There were multiple severe consequences of this practice. Parents started seeking wives for their sons due to the greed for wealth and domestic products that came with marriage. This led to families with daughters facing immense financial pressure.
Taking a loan or using life's savings for a daughter's marriage became the expected norm. If someone couldn't provide a good dowry for their daughter, she would ultimately face harassment for the same. It even leads to criminal activities like murder, sexual exploitation, misconduct, etc.
All the cult practices involved in the dowry led to the passing of the Dowry Prohibition Act to protect the victims from the pitfalls of this practice. Today, this law has empowered women to take hold of their future and protect themselves from greedy matrimonial matches by registering an FIR in the nearby police station. If such a complaint comes to light, a proper police investigation is carried out against the groom's family, and strict action is taken.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you think people follow all laws strictly?
All citizens do not follow laws strictly. Even after the implementation of the dowry prohibition act or ban on plastic usage, people can still be seen indulging in the same activities. However, with increased awareness, the frequency of such acts has drastically reduced over time.
What steps should be taken to ensure the proper implementation of moral laws?
Most people tend to disobey specific laws due to their convenience. For example, people can still be seen carrying plastic bags because they are much cheaper and easily accessible. One way to prevent such activities is by ensuring the availability of replacement options, like jute bags.
Do you think the police forces help enforce laws?
Yes, the police help implement laws by keeping a strict check on people in our society. Anyone approaching the police station with a complaint can usually expect quick action from the concerned authority.
