What is IRDP? The full form of IRDP is Integrated Rural Development Program.

The Integrated Rural Development Program was established to give the underprivileged access to employment opportunities.

In addition to giving those who fall below the poverty line the necessary subsidies, this program also raises their level of living. The Indian government introduced the Integrated Rural Development Program (IRDP) in 1978, and it was put into action in 1980.

The program's objective is to improve the living conditions of the impoverished by giving them access to employment possibilities and skill-development opportunities. By providing the required subsidies and job possibilities to individuals below the poverty line, the program is regarded as one of the best yojanas to address issues related to poverty.

Objectives, Beneficiaries and Subsidies

The Integrated Rural Development Program seeks to empower the impoverished by assisting them in reaching their full potential and to improve the quality of life for families that fall below the poverty line. By giving its target groups useful resources and inputs, the program achieves its goals. These families receive financial support from the assets, which may be in the primary, secondary, or tertiary sectors, in the form of government subsidies, advances, or credit from financial organisations.

The beneficiaries of IRDP Program:

  • Rural artisans
  • Labourers
  • Marginal Farmers
  • Scheduled castes and scheduled tribes
  • Economically backward classes with an annual income of less that Rs 11,000

Subsidies Under IRDP:

  • Small farmers (25%)
  • Agricultural labourers  and Marginal farmers (33.33%)
  • Differently abled people and SC/ST families (50%)

For SC/ST households and individuals with disabilities, the maximum subsidy amount is set at Rs 6,000. For non-DPAP and non-DDP locations, it is Rs 4,000, while for DPAP and DDP localities, it is Rs 5,000.

Women, individuals with disabilities, and SC/ST candidates are promised subsidies of 50%, 40%, and 3%, respectively, from this category. The individuals in this group who have been allocated the ceiling surplus land also receive first preference, as do Green Card holders who qualify as free bonded labourers and family assistance recipients.
