Tarleton State College became an independent entity from the Texas A&M College Framework in 1917, and became a four-year degree-granting organization in 1959. It was then granted the status of a college in 1973. Tarleton State College was founded in 1899 as a private, human sciences institution, known at the time as the John Tarleton School. Its main campus is in Stephenville, Texas, about 70 miles southwest of Fort Worth. Tarleton State College is a state-funded institution that offers a vibrant learning environment and has been instructing students in the Post-Worth area for more than 30 years. It was ranked at #>800 in the 2024 US College Rankings by Times Higher Education and occupies the #376 rank in the U.S. News National Universities ranking for 2024.
