Rice University emphasizes nine factors when evaluating applicants: academic performance in secondary school, class rank, GPA, essays, letters of recommendation, extracurricular activities, interpersonal qualities, and talent/ability. Consideration is given to the applicant's interview performance, whether or not they are the first in their family to attend college, whether or not they have a blood relative who attended Rice, where they live, what race/ethnicity they are, what kind of work they do, and how interested they are in attending Rice.
Tips for Applying to Rice University
Enroll in UG courses
All applicants from overseas are required, just like applicants from the United States, to use either the Coalition Application portal or the Common Application platform. After students have finished their applications on one of these portals by the beginning of November, they have the option to request an alumni interview.
Enroll for PG courses
Rice welcomes direct applications from prospective international students and accepts them through its online application platform. Students who have not earned the necessary credits are still expected to attend summer school to make up the difference.
Application Deadlines
Rice University takes admission applications for Spring and Fall semesters.
