The University of the Pacific was the first certified college in a long time, upon its establishment in 1851. It was begun by the Methodist church and remains California's only Methodist college. The college was established in St Nick Clara and afterwards moved to San Jose and Stockton in 1924. The college is famous for giving individualized guidance and a variety of preparatory programs for students. U.S. News ranks the institution at #142 in its list of National Universities for 2024. The university is also ranked at #1201-1400 in the QS World University Rankings list for 2025.
