• 1865: The Indiana General Assembly passes a resolution to create an institution and join the Morrill Act plan.
• 1869: The Indiana General Assembly accepts a $150,000 donation from John Purdue, $50,000 from Tippecanoe County, and 100 acres from local citizens in exchange for choosing the Lafayette region for the new institution. The new university is called Purdue University by the legislature.
