In Lancaster, Lancashire, England, Lancaster University (officially The University of Lancaster) is a public research institution. The institution was one of many new universities founded in the 1960s and was formed in 1964 by royal charter. The 360-acre Bailrigg land was donated by Lancaster City Council in 1963 and is now home to the purpose-built college. The student body of the university is represented by the Lancaster University Students' Union (LUSU). There isn't a main union building, which is unusual.
At Lancaster University, there are around 175 distinct societies in operation. Sports, hobbies, politics, academics, culture, and religion are typical topics. Throughout the Freshers' term, there are a number of fairs where different clubs and societies can advertise. Student housing off-campus is available at Chancellor's Wharf. On Aldcliffe Road, by the Lancaster canal, it comprises three structures.
