University of Aberystwyth Rankings 2025

Located in Aberystwyth, Wales, Aberystwyth University is a public research institution. One of the original member institutions of the erstwhile federal University of Wales was Aberystwyth. More than 8,000 students attend the university, spread across 17 departments and three academic faculties.

Originally established in 1872 as University College Wales, Aberystwyth, it changed its name to University College of Wales, Aberystwyth in 1894 and became a founding member of the University of Wales. 

The majority of the university's buildings, the Arts Centre, the Students' Union, and a large number of the residence halls are located atop Penglais Hill, which provides views over Cardigan Bay and the town of Aberystwyth. The National Library of Wales, one of the five legal deposit libraries in Britain, is located just beneath Penglais Campus.
