In Hamburg, Germany, there is a public research university called the University of Hamburg (abbreviated UHH). The Hamburg Colonial Institute, the Academic College, and the former General Lecture System were combined to form it on March 28, 1919. With linked institutes and research centers spread out around the city-state, the main campus is situated in Rotherbaum's central district. UHH is home to seven Nobel Prize winners and one Wolf Prize winner.
The University of Hamburg is comprised of more than 180 structures dispersed over the urban area. The Main Building is located next to the Von-Melle-Park main campus, on the Moorweide, across from Hamburg Dammtor station. That area is home to the Hamburg University Archive, the Audimax (Auditorium), the State and University Library Hamburg, and a number of other teaching buildings. In the same quarter, the second group of university buildings is centered on Martin Luther King Square.
