History of University of Göttingen

The University of Göttingen was founded in 1734 by George II in the Age of Enlightenment. The first classes were conducted in the year 1737. University of Göttingen Requirements for Examination

  • The University of Göttingen has a University entrance examination qualifying test (in German “Hochschulzugangsberechtigung”, or HZB) which needs to be taken by the applicants applying for courses and programs to this university. 
  • Subject-related university entrance qualification via graduation from school. 
  • Subject-related university entrance qualification via vocational training.
  • English language and German language proficiency test scores are mandatory. IELTS score of 7 and TOEFL scores of 577 are accepted. Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English is also an accepted English language proficiency test with at least grade “A”. The test scores should not be older than one year.
  • Students need to take the following German language test at the time of enrollment, DSH tests at the University of Göttingen, and the level is DSH 3 for bachelor’s program, and for postgraduate and doctoral courses, it should be DSH 2 level. For study programs that are taught in German, a minimum German language proficiency level of A1. 

University of Göttingen Admissions Requirements

Students need to fulfil University of Göttingen requirements to apply for the courses and programs successfully: 

  • All the language skills certificates need to be submitted which are not more than 1 year old. If the application is not issued in English or German, it needs to be translated by the official accredited translation agency. The test scorecards of the English language proficiency test and German language skills need to be submitted in original. 
  • The online application form needs to be submitted, which the students received through the email address as a PDF document. 
  • Evidence of prior education, where the students have done their high school and graduation. 
  • Updated resume must be written in the English language by outlining your academic and other relevant experience achievements up to date.
  • All the academic records and transcripts and the school leaving certificate and grading system need to be submitted at the time of application. The previous education institutions’ grading system helps in understanding the minimum score requirements. The final degree of the course or program last attended should be submitted. 
  • APS certification for applicants from China, Mongolia, and Vietnam.
  • Letter of motivation where the students state their expectations, career objectives, and goals to pursue a particular course or program at the University of Göttingen.
  • Students need not include a letter of recommendation and internship certificate as that will not be considered for admission requirements. 

Scholarship for University of Göttingen

The University of Göttingen does not offer any scholarships. However, there are external scholarships programs that students can apply for independently, like the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).
