Graduate Certificate in Language and Cultural Literacy at The University of Melbourne

In the Direct Entry Program you will build your English language skills in reading, writing, listening and speaking. At the higher levels, you will practise academic skills that will help you succeed in your studies at diploma, bachelor, master or PhD level. In the final 10 weeks, you will attend lectures, participate in class tutorials, and complete essays and a research assignment - to prepare you for your studies at Griffith University. Successfully complete the Direct Entry Program to enter your Griffith program directly without needing to provide a proficiency test result.

Gain the writing, editing, publishing, design and research skills to build a rewarding career in print or online. The Graduate Certificate in Writing, Editing and Publishing covers all stages of the writing and publishing process, and the skills needed to meet growing demands. During this half year full-time (or part-time equivalent) program, you'll develop practical knowledge and experience in writing and editing across genres including creative writing, corporate and technical documents, academic research in the creative arts, advertising and marketing.

You can start at the Griffith English Language Institute with any English proficiency level and study for the period suited to your own purposes. You will be placed in a class between Level 1 and Level 6 based on our placement test taken on arrival, or your proficiency test result if you have one. If you are placed in Level 1, 2, 3 or 4, you will develop language skills for everyday communication: speaking, listening, reading, writing, grammar and vocabulary, and pronunciation. At Levels 5 and 6, you will further improve your communication skills and also practise academic skills that will be useful for work or further study.
