The University of Maine is a public institution in Orono, Maine. US News and World Report ranks it at 213 in the National Universities List (2022) while QS ranks it at 251-300 in the World University Rankings (2023). The institution was founded in 1865 as and is a land, space and sea grant institution. 

The University was founded as the Maine College of Agriculture and the Mechanic Arts in 1862. The name changed to the University of Maine in 1897. It now has accreditation from the NECHE.
