Central Michigan University is a public research institution at Mount Pleasant in Michigan. It is ranked 239 in the U.S. News National Universities list (2022). It started as the Central Michigan Normal School and Business Institute in 1892. 

The Central Michigan Normal School began around 1895 and became the Central Michigan University in 1959. It has regional accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission. 

The university has its campus at 1200 S. Franklin St, Mount Pleasant, Michigan. It has several research centers, including the cybersecurity center, information management institute, center for excellence in STEM education, center for community counseling and development, mobile health center, and the institute for health and business insights, among many others. 

The institution offers 65+ online programs and additional programs taught across 25 satellite campuses in North America. There are master's, bachelor's, and doctoral programs available for students. The university has seven colleges with 300 programs in total. Key study and focus areas include Business Administration, Science, and Engineering, and Medicine. 

Notable alumni include Congresswoman Brenda L. Lawrence, retired President of Centennial College, Ann Buller, and retired President of Confederation College, Pat Lang.
