Binghamton University: Rankings, Courses & Admissions

Binghamton University is a public institution with campuses in Binghamton, Johnson City, and Vestal in New York. The University started its journey in 1946 as the Triple Cities College. However, the name Binghamton University was officially adopted in 1992. It is ranked 83 on the National Universities list by U.S. News & World Report. 

Four years later, the college was integrated into SUNY (State University of New York) and became Harpur College. It shifted to Vestal in 1961. The university has accreditation from the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE). Moreover, it has students from 100+ countries. The student-faculty ratio at the university is 19:1. 

The main campus is at Binghamton, while it also has campuses at Vestal and Johnson City. The university boasts 19 research centres, including the Center for Energy-Smart Electronic Systems, New York Node of the Next Flex Flexible Hybrid Electronics Manufacturing Institute, etc.

The university offers 130+ undergraduate programs, while colleges and institutions include the Harpur College of Arts and Sciences, School of Management, Watson College of Engineering and Applied Sciences, Decker College of Nursing, and Health Sciences College of Community and Public Affairs, and the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. The university’s admissions are more selective, with an acceptance rate of 43% and an early acceptance rate of 60%. 

Notable alumni of the university include the chief financial officer at the New York Yankees, Scott Krug, politician Hakeem Jeffries, and senior vice president and CFO at eBay – Bob Swan. 

The institution offers several career services. It has recognition from the NCDA (National Career Development Association) as an Exemplary Career Center. Students will also come across varied online career resources, helpful videos, events, workshops, and career clusters.
