With nine faculties, including veterinary medicine, commerce, nursing, and the faculty of Indigenous knowledge, education, research, and applied studies, UPEI is the sole university on Prince Edward Island. Writing studies, inquiry studies, or university studies are the three required courses that all first-year students must select from. The Climate Research Lab is housed in the Canadian Centre for Climate Change and Adaptation, which also functions as a living lab that provides students with access to surrounding wetlands, woodlands, and coastal habitats that are impacted by climate change.

The UPEI School of Climate Change and Adaptation's professor and acting associate dean, Dr. Aitazaz Farooque, is leading a team of researchers from across Canada that has been awarded $6.93 million in federal funding to develop precision agriculture methods that will protect food security and slow down climate change. In order to accelerate the development of solutions to support a sustainable agriculture and agri-food sector in a net-zero economy, the Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry, and the Honourable Lawrence MacAulay, Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food, announced an investment of $87.5 million over four years to support 16 Canadian research projects, including the UPEI-led project.

History of University of Prince Edward Island

Prince of Wales College (founded in 1834) and Saint Dunstan's University (founded in 1855), the University of Prince Edward Island's founding institutions, are the source of the university's illustrious academic history, which dates back to the early 1800s. One university was established in the province in 1969 as a result of the University Act, which was passed by the Prince Edward Island government led by Premier Alex B. Campbell. The University of Prince Edward Island accepted its first students in September of that year.

The International Student Employment Support Program (ISESP) was developed by the Experiential Education Department in collaboration with Skills PEI. International undergraduate students seeking their first professional Canadian work experience are the target audience for this program. Students must apply in order to be considered for this competitive program, which has a limited number of seats. Not all qualifying students will be accepted.
