The federal government's New Frontiers in Research Fund (NFRF) awarded a total of $2 million to three researchers at Carleton University. The intention was to support multidisciplinary projects that investigate the potential of gut microbes to break down "forever chemicals," trace the origins of life on Earth, and elevate the voices of those living in precarious housing in order to achieve equitable and transformative climate adaptation.

History of Carleton University

Originally established as Carleton College in 1942, the school provided evening classes to returning World War II soldiers as a private, non-denominational university. The Carleton University Act, which was later revised in 1957 to give the institution its current name, was used by the provincial government to establish Carleton as a university in 1952. The institution was named after the now-dissolved Carleton County, which at the time of its founding encompassed the city of Ottawa. 1946 saw the awarding of Carleton's first degrees to graduates of its public administration and journalism departments. In recent times, the university has awarded a total of 4,232 degrees to its students.

Carleton University Placements

Based on the cohort of students that enrolled as first-year undergraduates in fall 2014, full-time, the 2021/22 graduation rate was calculated. This graduation percentage was 69.9% for Carleton. The Ontario Graduate Survey is commissioned by MCU every year to determine the employment rates of recent graduates. 1,614 Carleton grads replied to the poll for 2019 graduates, representing a 34% response rate. 99% of Carleton graduates found work within two years of graduation, and eighty-nine percent found work within six months.
