Graduate Certificate in Design Thinking at Murdoch University

The Graduate Certificate in Design is an entry-level postgraduate course that allows students with a Bachelor's degree in a discipline other than Design to transition into the Master of Design (Service Design) or Master of Design (Design Leadership). The course draws on aspects of the School's highly-regarded undergraduate design program to provide the design research and practice fundamentals required for the emerging and increasingly important disciplines of Social and Service Design, and Design Leadership. The course is designed to support entry into the Master of Design. It is possible for the course to provide an exit degree option for students enrolled in the Master of Design (C04429), who want a one-session (24 credit points) experience of postgraduate coursework in design. Subjects offered are drawn from the Master of Design suite of subjects.

A Graduate Certificate of UX Design enhances your understanding and practice of user experience design. You’ll advance your skills in user research and deepen your understanding of the principles of design to amplify digital customer experiences.

In this course, you’ll build on your current knowledge and expertise, learning a range of modern design practices and methodologies. Across the three core subjects, you’ll gain the skills used to build design-centric solutions for a range of multi-platform digital environments and contexts. Tailor your study to your career goals with an elective subject to specialise in service design, project management, leadership and more.

The Graduate Certificate of UX Design can be completed in six months with a full-time study load or one year if studying part time.

On graduation you’ll be ready to progress your career as a UX designer or use this qualification as a pathway to our Master of Design program to enhance your service design and leadership skills.

The Graduate Certificate of Design program has an interdisciplinary underlying theoretical basis, as it pertains to contemporary design practices and principles in new emerging professional environments. The core subjects of the course focus on in-depth exploration of design knowledge and an understanding of design and creative thinking practices, complemented with elective subjects from the Master of Business Administration and Global Project Management courses. The combination provides the learner with advanced knowledge and practical skills to operate in a global creative business environment.
