Our academics are international leaders in research in the field, and the masters offers a range of specialisations in either museum or heritage studies. Within the museum specialisation you’ll learn traditional curatorship and collections management, in addition to new areas such as such as social inclusion, citizenship and community engagement, social activism and museums, Indigenous curation and collection, and innovative visitor studies. The cultural heritage management specialisation offers you the opportunity to analytically address and assess national and international policy and practices in the context of a critical framework that explores the political and social phenomenon and impacts of heritage and its management and conservation.

As language assumes ever greater importance in an interconnected, multilingual world, the study of linguistics and applied linguistics is relevant to a growing number of careers from language teaching to natural language processing. In the Master of General and Applied Linguistics, you will have the opportunity to explore diverse topics across general and applied linguistics areas including structural linguistics, sociolinguistics, language acquisition, language contact, language teaching, language and culture, social interaction, forensic linguistics and language documentation.

Anthropology is the study of contemporary human cultural lives. This degree centres on anthropology's ethnographic approach, which is employed to understand how people live their lives, on their own terms. Such an approach enables anthropologists to examine key global challenges and events, like climate change and xenophobia, as well as how government policies, technologies, and products and services are incorporated into people's lives. Designed for those whose work or interest is in understanding people in specific contexts, this program equips students with the necessary ethnographic skills and opportunities to undertake analysis of human lives, and to make cross-cultural comparisons.

In a tumultuous world, how can Australia, its organisations, and its people most effectively engage with Asia? This graduate certificate builds intercultural leadership skills by offering multidimensional perspectives on key challenges facing Asia and our region, such as rising inequality, social upheaval, political transformation, and environmental crisis. It cultivates the self-reflective knowledge and analytical tools needed for engagement with Asia in a rapidly changing environment.

The graduate certificate of Engaging the Pacific offers students an opportunity to explore the island regions' diverse histories, cultures, arts, languages, politics, migration and environmental issues. The program utilises critical approaches from interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary perspectives that are inclusive and supportive of indigenous Pacific voices, knowledges and methods. Students hoping to work in the region, or in a wide variety of agencies and organisations engaged with Pacific policy, teaching, collections and communities in the islands and diaspora, will receive a strong grounding in thinking with and for Oceania.

The Graduate Certificate in Policy Design and Analysis is a qualification for early-career professionals seeking to start or advance their careers in government and public sector organisations. It equips graduates with the skills they need to confront local, national and global policy challenges of the twenty-first century. On completing the program, graduates will understand the ideas and theories that shape current policy practice and be able to navigate the national and global institutional architecture that governs public affairs. The multidisciplinary curriculum is delivered by a team of leading scholars in policy studies, governance, political development, and public sector leadership with deep expertise in Australia and the Asia-Pacific region. The program articulates to the Master of Public Policy.

The Master of Regulation and Governance (MREGG) is a unique degree that equips students and their organisations to navigate environments where complexity, catastrophic risk, and transformative technologies are reshaping the ways in which we govern and regulate. Graduates from this program will be working in - or will join - government or private sector organisations charged with designing and applying regulatory policy solutions to pressing social problems, often in partnership with diverse stakeholders. Core courses provide students with a solid foundation in the concepts, processes, institutions and practice of regulation and governance. Elective courses provide case-studies, simulations and clinics in which to examine domains such as climate, crime, environment, health, Indigenous Australia, justice, safety, technology and urban design. All the courses are interactive and ask how regulation and governance is created and by whom - and for what purpose, with an emphasis on how to better anticipate catastrophe, manage risk and provide equitable social outcomes. It draws on the evidence-based research and the 'big ideas' in regulation and governance for which the ANU's RegNet academics are world famous. MREGG students join an education program at the School of Regulation and Global Governance (RegNet) that emphasizes interdisciplinary skills-building, our place in Asia and the Pacific, a stimulating curriculum, master classes with distinguished practitioners, global networks and multiple career pathways.

The Master of Contemporary Art Practices is aimed at artists who want to develop a more ambitious, independent contemporary art practice. The program extends a students practical, theoretical and conceptual knowledge in order to develop a deeper understanding of contemporary practices in context of how artists work in a range of disciplines.

The Master of Contemporary Practices in Art (Advanced) is aimed at artists who want to develop a more ambitious, independent contemporary art practice. The program extends a students practical, theoretical and conceptual knowledge in order to develop a deeper understanding of contemporary practices in context of how artists work in a range of disciplines. Contemporary artists respond to the challenges and questions that arise in an increasingly global and technologically advanced world. Their approaches are diverse, combining materials, methods and subjects that extend their practice. Artists today increasingly problem solve, collaborate with a variety of partners, and think and work outside of the traditional boundaries that distinguish a contemporary practice. This graduate program is unique as it supports hands on learning development in workshop, studio and digital environments by progressing students through courses that support individual practice-led research opportunities. Students are encouraged to undertake a range of approaches to contemporary art practice, including a focus on specialist knowledge of materials and skills, testing new conceptual methodologies, and/or solving problems through cross-disciplinary or hybrid experiences. Students benefit directly from and contribute to the research environment found within the School of Art and Design.

This program provides a formalised pathway to broader and deeper research-led learning on the Pacific region for policymakers, program designers, researchers and analysts working on and in the Pacific region. Drawing on the research portfolio and teaching staff of the Department of Pacific Affairs (DPA), as well as well-established cognate courses at ANU, this program offers the theoretical foundations to understand the complexities of development in the Pacific, while covering the depth and breadth of the current development, societal and political issues affecting the Pacific region. Students can design their own tailored program to include a blend of critical conceptual foundations in development and deep-dives into real-world issues for the Pacific region, with up to 30 different courses available. Students can choose from courses with traditional and intensive delivery methods, featuring assessment methods which foster critical awareness through an emphasis on building an evidence-base for policy work.

This program offers you the opportunity to develop a cutting-edge understanding of climate policy, informed by research-led teaching delivered by some of the worlds leading researchers in climate policy. It explores fundamental concepts, contemporary issues, and leading practices for working in and researching climate policy. Core components include study of domestic and international climate policy with a focus on emissions reduction and energy, and the effective communication of climate policy. Electives are available in intersecting and adjacent policy areas including water, food, pollution, and disaster risk reduction. Courses in this program are available online, in person and via intensive delivery.

The Graduate Certificate of National Security Policy offers a world-class qualification for national security professionals. This program provides an introduction to National Security concepts and practical policy skills, with a focus on navigating the Australian security landscape.
