CAEL Syllabus

The CAEL syllabus is structured to assess a range of language skills necessary for academic and professional success in English-speaking environments. The test also includes unscored items that are indistinguishable from scored items, which helps maintain the test's integrity and reliability.

Here's a concise overview of the CAEL syllabus:

Component

Details

Speaking

This section comprises three tasks. Two tasks involve responding to short questions, while the third task requires candidates to interpret and discuss information presented in a chart or diagram.

Candidates are evaluated on their ability to communicate effectively and coherently.

Integrated Reading

Candidates encounter both short and long reading passages, followed by comprehension questions that assess their ability to grasp key ideas, details, and inferences.

One speaking question is also there, which requires candidates to synthesize information from a long reading passage.

Integrated Listening

This section includes short and long listening passages, followed by comprehension questions.

Candidates are also evaluated on their ability to verbally present information from a long listening passage.

Academic Writing: Unit A

Divided into two units, this section involves responding to questions based on integrated reading and listening materials.

Academic Writing: Unit  B

In Unit B, you get one long listening and one long reading passage followed by questions along with a writing task that requires a shorter, more focused written response, using information from both the aforesaid passages.
