Nanyang Technology University (NTU), Singapore, regained the top spot in Times Higher Education (THE) Young University Ranking 2023 after coming second last year. It was followed by the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology at #2, Paris Sciences et Lettres Research University at #3, Hong Kong Polytechnic University at #4, and Erasmus University Rotterdam at #5.
KEY HIGHLIGHTS
- Hong Kong leads the list, with 3 of its institutions ranking under the top 10.
- France is the most-represented country, with 5 institutions in the top 20.
- Turkey, India, and Iran represent 47, 45, and 39 institutions, respectively, emerging as the new education hubs.
- Humanitas University, Italy, ranks 29th with the highest new entry in the ranking.
- In 2023, Bangladesh, Ethiopia, and Namibia institutions enter the ranking list for the first time.

The release of the Young University Ranking by Times Higher Education (THE) provides a rank list for the world’s top universities that are 50 years old or younger. Unlike other world university ranking providers, THE rank list represents universities from countries other than the US and UK. The list includes new emerging education hubs worldwide. It judges the universities based on the various 13 parameters. It focuses on aspects such as teaching, research, knowledge transfer, and international outlook.
As many as 66 new countries have been added to the list in 2023, as 605 universities were ranked by THE.
