About MS in Computer Science at University of Florida

The MS in CS at University of Florida is a postgraduate degree with several core courses, including the following:

Credits Required 

Graduate students may select either thesis or non-thesis programs. The credit hours required are 30 in total. Up to 9 credits from any other institution are transferable and should be applied in the first enrollment term. In the case of the thesis option, 6 CIS 6971 credits are necessary and will count in the total score. The core courses are any three out of the five given below:

Credit Requirements for Thesis Option

  1. 12 CISE Graduate Core Credits

  3. 6 Master Thesis Research Credits 
  4. Up to 3 EGN 5949 credits (internships) are permissible

Credit Requirements for Non-Thesis Option

  1. 12 CISE graduate core credits 
  2. 18 other CISE graduate-level credits (12 CISE graduate-level credits at least, up to 1 CIS 6935 credit and 3 CIS 6905 credits)
  3. A maximum of 6 credits outside the academic department may be obtained with approval. 
  4. Up to 3 credits of EGN 5949 (internships) are permissible. 

Eligibility Requirements for MS in Computer Science at University of Florida

The basic eligibility requirements include the following: 

  • B GPA for upper-level courses. 
  • GRE scores- Minimum 153 in Verbal and 155 in Quantitative, and 3.0 for the Analytical sections. 
  • TOEFL 90 for iBT and 213 for CBT. Indian students may submit IELTS scores as well (minimum 7.5 overall). 
  • Undergraduate degrees in Computer Engineering/Computer Science/Electrical Engineering with a GPA of 3.3 out of 4.0 in undergraduate courses. 
  • Pre-requisite UG courses or equivalent include statistics, CIS introduction, calculus, introduction to computer organization, applied discrete structures, data structures, algorithms, operating systems, etc.

Admissions for MS in Computer Science at University of Florida

The University of Florida MS in CS deadline is February 1 for fall admission. For the spring session, it is on the 1st of August. There is no pre-evaluation, and applications have to be made directly to the university with all supporting documentation as per the eligibility criteria.

  2. Three LORs (Letters of Recommendation). 
  3. Official GRE and TOEFL/IELTS score sheets electronically. 
  4. Official academic transcripts and certificates of educational degrees.
