Duration of MBBS Course in Germany:

MBBS in Germany typically takes six years to complete and is divided into two parts:

Pre-clinical phase:

The first two years of the program are dedicated to the pre-clinical phase, which involves studying the basic sciences such as anatomy, biochemistry, physiology, pharmacology, and pathology. This phase is primarily classroom-based and involves lectures, seminars, and practical laboratory work.

Clinical phase:

The remaining four years of the program are focused on the clinical phase, which involves applying the knowledge gained in the pre-clinical phase to real-life patient care. During this phase, students rotate through various clinical departments such as internal medicine, surgery, paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology, and psychiatry. Students will also undertake clinical clerkships and elective rotations to gain experience in different areas of medicine.

Throughout the program, students are required to complete various assessments and exams to ensure they have met the necessary academic standards. The final exam is the State Examination, which tests the students theoretical and practical knowledge of the subject and serves as proof of their qualification as a doctor. Upon successful completion of the State Examination, students are issued a license to practice medicine, known as Approbation, and can begin their medical careers.

Important Note: German is the medium of instruction for MBBS programs in Germany. Thus, you need to be highly proficient in the language. Only limited programs are English taught. For these programs too, you will need to prove language proficiency via IELTS or TOEFL.
