University of Chicago: MBA Prerequisites for Admission

The University of Chicago's application procedure is intended to be thorough, ensuring that applicants not only highlight their academic achievements but also highlight their distinctive traits and prospective contributions to the program. Admission to the University of Chicago MBA document requirements include the following: 

  • GMAT or GRE scores - Average score for students accepted in 2023:  GMAT - 729 and GRE - 164
  • Letters of recommendation
  • Essays
  • Attending an interview
  • International candidates must also submit the required IELTS (minimum of 7) or TOEFL (Paper Test - 600 or iBT - 104) scores for admission.
  • Resume: Your resume should highlight the voluntary and professional endeavors that qualify you for the program.

Eligibility

Prospective students of MBA from the University of Chicago must have completed a bachelor's degree or equivalent from an accredited institution. The university also offers a Scholars Deferred MBA Program where students can apply in their final year of undergraduate studies and then defer admission for a few years while they gain professional work experience. 

While there is no specific work experience requirement, most admitted students typically have around five years of professional experience, which enriches class discussions and peer interactions.

MBA Application Process at University of Chicago

In addition to GPA and GMAT scores, Chicago Booth takes a comprehensive approach to MBA admissions, considering your background and experiences.

  • Online application: You must register and create a username and password to submit the online application. The online application process includes detailed instructions for filling out the form and sending any necessary documents. You are not required to finish the application in one sitting, and you are free to amend it as often as necessary before submitting it.
  • Fill in your essays*: You must submit the response to the following questions: 

a)How will a Booth MBA help you achieve your immediate and long-term post-MBA career goals? (Minimum 250 words, no maximum.)

b)An MBA is as much about personal growth as it is about professional development. In addition to sharing your experience and goals in terms of career, we’d like to learn more about you outside of the office. Use this opportunity to tell us something about who you are (Minimum 250 words, no maximum.)

Moreover, you will be getting an optional question 

Is there any unclear information in your application that needs further explanation? (Maximum 300 words.)

Reapplicants, however, must ensure to answer the following question:

Upon reflection, how has your perspective regarding your future, Chicago Booth, and/or getting an MBA changed since the time of your last application? (Maximum 300 words.)

  • Submit all the required documents and your test score. 
  • Lastly, pay the application fee of $250.
