Eligibility Criteria & Admission Requirement

There are subject and department-specific requirements for University of Oxford postgraduate courses. Some general guidelines include the following: 

  • If the graduate course necessitates a strong upper second-class undergraduate degree with honors in the UK system, you will either require a professional bachelor’s degree of four years with an overall grade of 60% from a recognized institution or 70% for degrees by other institutions or cumulative GPA of 3.3 out of 4.0, 5.0 out of 7.0, 6.0 out of 8.0 or 8.0 out of 10.0. 
  • Otherwise, a standard bachelors degree of three years will be required from a recognized institution with 65% as the overall grade for recognized institutions or 70% for degrees awarded from other institutions. 
  • Masters holders from non-recognized institutions will also be eligible to apply. 
  • If the graduate course necessitates a first class undergraduate degree with honors in the UK system, then a professional bachelor’s degree (four years) will be needed from a recognized institution with an overall grade of 65%. Otherwise, you will need 75% for degrees from other institutions. Another option is a cumulative grade of 3.5 out of 4.0, 5.5 out of 7.0, 6.5 out of 8.0, or 8.5 out of 10.0. 
  • An alternative option is a 3-year bachelor's degree from a recognized institution with 70% as the overall grade from recognized institutions or 75% for degrees awarded by other institutions. 
  • If the graduate course requires a master's degree, then you will need a masters degree that is awarded by a recognized institution. The overall grade should correspond to the following- 55% for a pass grade in the UK system, 60% for a merit grade in the UK system, or 70% for a distinction grade in the UK system.

Here are some scholarship options for Indian students pursuing master’s at Oxford University: 

Felix Scholarships- 

This scholarship offers a chance to pursue graduate studies in any discipline for outstanding Indian students. It covers 100% of the course fees, while enabling a grant (approximately £16,164) for living costs, and coverage for a return flight from India to the UK. The awards are given for the entire fee-liability duration of the course. Those applying to start a full-time and new masters or full-time DPhil course at the university are eligible for this scholarship. The student should be unable to enroll without getting financial support. 

The applicant should have a first-class undergraduate or master’s degree from an Indian university, while being an Indian resident and national. They should not have a degree from India while being expected to return to the country after the completion of their studies. 

Reach Oxford Scholarship- 

This scholarship is given to students who are nationals of low-income countries which get official development assistance from the Development Assistance Committee of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development. India is in this list and new students can apply for all disciplines with the exception of medicine. Applicants of the highest academic ability with financial need and an offer can apply. 

The scholarship duration is 3-4 years, based on the length of the course and covers a return airfare, a grant for living costs, and course fees each year. There are 2-3 awards given each year.
