The Department of Science & Technology sponsors and manages the creative "Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (INSPIRE)" program, which aims to draw talent to science. The main goal of INSPIRE Scholarship is to inspire young people across the nation with the creative possibilities of science, attract gifted students to science from an early age, and thereby create the necessary human resource pool for bolstering and enlarging the nation's science and technology system and research and development base.

Candidates will get an INSPIRE Scholarship amount of ₹5,000 every month for a total of ₹60,000, which is the annual scholarship sum of ₹80,000. Summer research projects under active researchers at any recognized research center are required to SHE scholars. Annually, a ₹20,000 mentorship grant over the summer will also be awarded. After finishing the assignment, the scholars should turn in their project report and the mentors' certificate.

Types of Scholarship Fall Under INSPIRE Scholarship Scheme

INSPIRE Scholarship for 12th Passed Students

For INSPIRE scholarship eligibility for BSc. students, The INSPIRE program's SCHOLARSHIP for HIGHER EDUCATION (SHE) component seeks to motivate deserving students to pursue studies in the natural and basic sciences. Each year, SHE awards 12,000 scholarships to deserving students between the ages of 17 and 22.

INSPIRE Scholarship for PG Students

Every year, the INSPIRE FACULTY FELLOWSHIP component offers 100 Ph.D. holders in the 27–32 age range the chance to conduct basic and applied science research for five years under INSPIRE fellowship for PhD. 

INSPIRE Scholarship for MSc Students

Each year, the INSPIRE FELLOWSHIP component provides 1000 Fellowships to deserving students between the ages of 22 and 27 to pursue doctorates in the basic and applied sciences.

INSPIRE Scholarship for X Board Students

INSPIRE INTERNSHIP organizes science camps in the summer or winter to give the top 1% of students in Class X Board, who are between the ages of 16 and 17, a chance to connect with international and Indian science icons.

What is the Eligibility Criteria for INSPIRE Scholarship in 2024? 

The Inspire Scholarship eligibility criteria are provided below:-

• Eligible students are those who have achieved a grade point average in the top 1% of their Class XII exams from any State or Central Education Board in India. Furthermore, the student needs to be enrolled in B.Sc., B.S., and Int. M.Sc./M.S. courses in Natural and Basic Sciences.
• Students who are currently pursuing Natural and Basic Science courses in India at the B.Sc., B.S., International M.Sc./M.S. level and have achieved ranks in the JEE of IIT, AIPMT (among the top 10,000 ranks) can apply for INSPIRE Fellowship. 
• Scholars from the National Talent Search Examination (NTSE), the Jagadish Bose National Science Talent Search (JBNSTS), and medalists from international competitions who are enrolled in Bachelor's or Master's degree programs in the natural sciences are also qualified.

What is the Application Process for INSPIRE Scholarship?

Before completing your online application at www.online-inspire.gov.in, please read these guidelines.

Step 1: Registration for new users. The following information is supposed to be filled out by the student during registration.

Please click submit after filling up all necessary details.

Step 2: Scan the following documents and save them as separate files. 

• Passport-size photo
• Advisory or Eligibility note (in case the state/central board provided any)
• Caste/Community certificate for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC
• Class X mark sheet
• Class XII mark sheet
• NEET/JEE (Main)/JEE (Advanced)/NTSE/KVPY/ JBNSTS or international Olympic medalist
• Endorsement Form signed by the Director of the Institute/Principal of the College/Registrar of the University
• Supporting documents (if applicable)

Step 3: Online Application: Apply for Inspire scholarship.

• Step 1: Enter the registered email address as the user name and the registered password to log in to the portal.
• Step 2: A screen titled "Scholarship" will display, and you must click on it.
• Step 3: Please click the "Apply for Scholarship" button after selecting the "Scholarship" link.
• Step 4: Click the EDIT button and fill in each field individually: personal particulars, enrollment information at MSc or BSc levels, Class XII (Senior Secondary)details, competitive exam details at the national level, other details, and contact details. 
• Step 5: Click submit. You cannot edit your application after this step.

Inspire Scholarship Amount in 2024

The department will implement the Inspire Scholarship for PG students, which will provide a total of Rs 80000 in scholarships annually to students pursuing bachelors and masters programs.

A scholarship of a total of Rs 60000, or Rs 5,000 per month, would be awarded to each candidate annually. Everybody The scholars must complete a summer research project in a recognised research centre in India, working under the supervision of an active researcher. 

An annual mentorship fee of Rs 20,000 would be paid for this purpose in the summer. After finishing the project within the allotted time, the student must turn in the project report and the mentor's certificate.

Required Documents for INSPIRE Scholarship Application

Along with the application form, all applicants are expected to submit the following documents for INSPIRE scholarship:-

• Passport-size photo
• Advisory or Eligibility note (in case the state/central board provided any)
• Caste/Community certificate for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC

• Class XII marksheet

Incomplete applications are subject to rejection. The authorities will not entertain any representations or claims regarding this.

INSPIRE Scholarship Selection Process

If more than 10,000 acceptable applications are received in a given year, the Board Inclusive Model will be used to select the winners of the available scholarships.

The computation will be carried out on a pro rata basis of valid applications, in accordance with the recommendations made by the INSPIRE Scholarship Standing Committee.

The entire number of valid applications received by each board across all boards will be compared to the total number of scholarships offered under INSPIRESHE for that year, and the computation will be done in percentage terms for each board.

Terms and Conditions of INSPIRE Scholarship

In order to be eligible for an INSPIRE scholarship for higher education funding at any level, including B.Sc. or M.Sc., a scholar must pass the university or college test with at least 60% of the possible points or a GPA of at least 7.0 (on a 10-point scale) on their first try.

Scholarships for that academic year will be forfeited if any scholar receives a GPA of less than 7.0 (on a 10-point scale) or less than 60% in the B.Sc./B.S./Int. M.Sc./Int. M.S. examination, or fails any subject during the annual or semester test. Only if the scholar's academic record meets the requirements outlined in paragraph 1 above will the award be renewed the following year.
